The Poimenas Part A

The Poimenas – Part A is a superb collection of daywalks to amenable hills and knolls throughout Tasmania.  This is a comprehensive guide and companion to the Abels – Tasmanian mountains which are over 1,100m in height.  The featured hills are broken up into sections and also graded from family-friendly to experienced hikers.

The Poimenas – originally called Abelettes in 1994, are a natural follow-on from the Abels.  Poimenas are selected subject to the following criteria:

  • They are not an Abel
  • The summit is generally attainable within a maximum of 2 hours walking each way – though the time limit for particularly outstanding peaks was extended.
  • The route was to be free for the most part from thick scrub or dense forest
  • Good views are to be attained
  • Potential Poimenas where private property access was required had consent readily available
  • Where the summit is scrubby or too distant and an earlier viewpoint is obtained, that earlier location becomes the Poimena.

Like the Abels, this walking and hiking guide book divides the Poimenas into 8 Groups across the state.

Part A includes:

  • Group 1: South East
  • Group 2: South West
  • Group 3: Central East
  • Group 4: Central South
  • Group 5: Central West

Part B includes:

  • Group 6: North East
  • Group 7: Central North
  • Group 8: North West
