Description
Nova Totius Terrarum Orbis Geographica
This is a quality reproduction print of Nova Totius Terrarum Orbis – a decorative map by Henricus Hondius, first appearing in the 1630 edition of the Mercator-Hondius Atlas.Â
Henricus Hondius was a Dutch mapmaker, the son of famed cartographer Joducus Hondius, whose portrait appears at bottom left. The portraits featured in the other corners of this map are Gerardus Mercator, Claudius Ptolemy and Julius Caesar.
Interesting features of this map are California depicted as an island, and an early rendition of Australia’s northern coast as exploration of ‘The Unknown Southern Land’ (Terra Australis Incognita) by the Dutch continued.Â
This map is printed with fade-resistant inks on art-quality 250gsm matte stock.
