Excella Jewel of the Derwent
Excella Jewel of the Derwent details the history of this 647 passenger capacity vessel that operated mainly in Hobart during the early 20th century.
She was an ideal vessel for events in the harbour, achieveing a social mixing of all classes of people in the excitement of being out on the water. Accompanied by musical bands, food and drink was available on board. She also transported picknickers and spectators for races between steamers, yachts and sculls and would often server as the ‘mother ship’ for rowers at the numerous regattas held in southern Tasmania.
